"Where do we look for a model on how to move forward?

In both my business and philanthropy lives, I've had the chance to see in action an organization that's doing it right. The group is called Oregon Solutions. Oregon Solutions is a not-for-profit that works with businesses, government, and non-profit organizations. Their whole mission is to work with diverse groups who normally would just as soon tear each other's hair out as to sit in a room together and find common ground. It's a model we need in the big picture, now."

UPDATES ON OREGON SOLUTIONS PROJECTS

Collaboration >> Fort Clatsop to-the-Sea Trail
Co-conveners Representative Betsy Johnson and June Spence

"This project is a wonderful example of what we can accomplish when we bring together local, state and federal partners," said the Governor. "The Fort-to-Sea project will commemorate an important part of our history and will add a beautiful stretch of Oregon coast to the vibrant park system that visitors and Oregonians already enjoy." —Oregon Solutions Steering Committee Chair, Governor Kulongoski

Dedication formally links expedition to Oregon and Washington. Read about the official dedication of the new Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks in the Daily Astorian.

"A lot of it is just about developing relationships and trust," he said. —Chip Jenkins, Park Superintendent

The new partnership is uncharted territory for the National Park Service and both state parks agencies. But Jenkins said he sees a model for cooperation in the pursuit of the Fort-to-Sea Trail, which has involved the participation of national and state parks, the governor’s office, Clatsop County, the Oregon National Guard, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Weyerhaeuser and other private parties.

Community Governance >> Zenger Farm
Convener Bob Wise

Zenger Farm was recently highlighted as a Legacy Project at the Greenbuild International Conference in Portland November 10-12. The Zenger Farm Agricultural Park was selected because it is implementing green building practices and using the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System. The U.S. Green Building Council signed the Declaration of Cooperation along with many other partners who are integrating their resources to make the project a success.

Community Engagement >> Delta Ponds
Convener Jim Torrey

As a result of this collaborative process, the Delta Ponds project has successfully begun implementation and has expanded the project to include a mile-long scenic trail. The City of Eugene and its major partner, the Army Corps of Engineers are providing overall project management and design of the project. Members of the five Eugene-area Rotary Clubs have selected this project as their Centennial Project for a two-year period and will provide in-kind volunteer labor from about 500 members.
