Greetings OS Network:
The New Year brings exciting news about Oregon Solutions Projects. Two new Oregon Solutions Agreements will be signed in Lakeview and Brooks. Two other projects have been in the news recently: we see the success of the Oregon Solutions Delta Ponds agreement has resulted in the return of salmon to the restoration project in Eugene; and tremendous support for the Willamette Falls Locks helps to secure funding for the Locks. Read on for more information.
Thanks for your continued support of Oregon Solutions and we look forward to another great year of collaborative projects throughout the state!
Best, Greg Wolf, Director Oregon Solutions
This Oregon Solutions project, convened by Verne Duncan, is a great example of a community pulling together to find a solution to a major funding gap for the Locks.
"The Salmon is proof that the project worked.."
Oregon Solutions helped the City of Eugene pull together a diverse group of partners to leverage resources. Two years later, the return of salmon and other habitat mark the success of the project.
Two Oregon Solutions projects will be completed in the upcoming weeks.
"Working Together to Create Jobs, Restore Our Forests, and Provide Opportunities for the Future" The Lakeview Biomass Project is a community-based, multi-stakeholder effort to develop an economically-viable, ecologically-sustainable biomass power facility as a key part of an integrated solution to a multi-faceted forest health problem. The biomass energy facility (approximately 15 megawatts in size) would be adjacent to the Fremont Sawmill in Lakeview, Oregon.
This Oregon Solutions Team will gather on February 16th at the NORPAC Brooks facility to sign the Declaration of Cooperation. NORPAC approached Oregon Solutions because they realized that a focused source of education, technical information and support for sustainable agriculture does not exist in Oregon. A collaborative approach, driven by NORPAC, will provide a resource for farmers throughout the state who want to become more sustainable. The governor designated the Oregon Sustainable Agriculture Resource Center (OSARC) as an Oregon Solutions project in December 2004 and Thayne Dutson, Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University, was appointed as the convener of the project.
