Governor Ted Kulongoski brought together representatives from over forty government, business, non-profit and citizen organizations as an Oregon Solutions team to coordinate transportation services in the greater Jefferson County, and Warm Springs communities. As a result of project, a shuttle service will operate between Madras and Warm Springs, with a seasonal extension to Kahneeta. A “coordination center” will serve as the hub of implementation and future activity related to the vision. [more]
An Oregon Solutions Team was formed to assist in the building of a new airport terminal in North Bend. On June 23rd, the OS Team successfully completed a six-month collaborative process that culminated in the signing of a Declaration of Cooperation by sixteen parties. Along with the Coos County Airport District, signatories included: Senator Gordon Smith, the south coast state legislative delegation, cities of Coos Bay and North Bend, Coquille Tribe Economic Development Corporation, South Coast Development Commission, Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, and four state agencies. The Oregon Garden Foundation, with help from a grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), worked with an Oregon Solutions Team to establish a Sustainable Plant Research and Outreach Center (SPROUT). The core mission of SPROUT is to develop the use of plants and plant material for environmental sustainability purposes, through the development of new techniques, new plants, and new propagation methods.
SPROUT will sponsor on-site research in this emerging field, engaging in partnerships with practitioners and researchers, and providing matching funds for on-site research and demonstration. OS Team members include the Oregon Garden Foundation, The Institute for Natural Resources, Oregon State University, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA), OWEB, and a number of other public and private institutions.
